10 reasons why you should love yourself; and others will love you also!

Updated: Apr 26

To love yourself, seems selfish, stuck up...arrogant perhaps?

I don't believe so, a healthy love for yourself is a MUST, just a few reasons why...

Did you know that females are 60% more likely to suffer from Anxiety, 15 million people in the U.S suffer chronic social anxiety...in their teens and early 20's...and even more frightening...

15-24 year old GIRLS are 12 times as likely to die from Anorexia than any other causes (of anxiety) combined. 8 million (mostly women) in the U.S suffer Anorexia. DAMN SAD AND SCARY

If people found a love for themselves would these statistics be so frightening?

So yes, it's very important to learn to love yourself and here are 10 reasons why...

1. Confidence

If you are happy in your own skin, value yourself and are proud of simple achievements this leads to confidence in yourself. Being able to reach for your goal and visualise yourself achieving them. Your confidence and self-esteem are directly linked to mental health. You will be able to progress in life and your career.

2. Inward focus

Loving yourself means you are happy within, you are not searching for appreciation from others or 'material' things to make you happy. You have found your happiness. This ultimate means you will not be intimidated or influenced by what society deems is beautiful or successful. This focus is very important in this social media age, especially for teenager and young adults.

3. Leader

Loving yourself, being comfortable and confident with who you are and what you are doing means that you will have a defined set of rules, guidelines and values to govern your life. Values are SO important but often understated in society. High values means you will be able to confidently say NO to anything or anyone that does not align to your values. You will not be negatively influenced to do things that you know are not right, this is being a leader and not a follower.

4. Communication/Social skills

Loving yourself, confidence and high self-esteem leads to good communication and social skills. Social skills are a necessary part of life, especially career progression. As you see above; 15 million, yes 15 million people in the U.S alone suffer with social anxiety...Social skills are needed in work, relationships and have been stated as the TOP skill that employers are looking for when hiring.

5. Independant

Loving yourself and being happy in your life no matter where you are or what you do will have an enormous impact on your relationships. You will not 'need' anyone for emotional stability or appreciation, yes you may 'want' love or that person to be around you, but you don't 'need' it. You can then love and accept your partner for who they are and not who you need them to be.

6. Heath

Loving yourself will likely lead to looking after yourself not only mentally, emotionally but also physically. You will be much more likely to eat healthy, make healthy lifestyle choices and exercise.

7. Laughter

Loving yourself and being confident allows you to be silly, laugh, dance in the street and you will not be affected by what others think of you. Do you know that laughter is the best medicine for all types of anxiety and depression yet adults on average laugh only 4 times a day! This is especially important for embracing public speaking, promotions, networking etc. which is all part of a successful career.

8. Positivity

Loving yourself leads to emotional and mental stability which in turn makes you a positive person. You will attract similar people to you in your life. Even if you are under stress or have a bad day you will see the light or positive side and you will be able to shake yourself free from any negative thoughts. This will also impact the people around you.

9. Decisions

Loving yourself, having high values and self esteem will enable you to make effective decisions to impact your life positively. You will be able to recognise people or situations that wont bring harmony to your life, you will have the confidence and assertiveness to not let them impact you.

10. Finally...

The main reason to love yourself is that there is only ONE OF YOU, You have been placed on this earth for a reason, nothing about you is a mistake, you are designed exactly how you should be. You are one in 7.5 BILLION! so yes you are indeed pretty special...so loving yourself is a must.
